Liberty and Society: The Power of Imagery in Early Netherlands Painting: 1425–1575

This conference considered liberty and responsibility in several works from the Northern Renaissance in the Netherlands, a turning point in history associated with a move from a less religiously communal society to one in which individual judgment and individuality played a greater role. Readings put the primary focus on works of art by Jan van Eyck, Hieronymus Bosch, and Pieter Bruegel, but included a few texts for context.
