Liberalism, Institutional Design, and Religion
ABSTRACT
Religious tolerance has long been a cornerstone of classical liberalism, yet religious groups and individuals sometimes act intolerantly, constraining the liberties of others. In this conference, we explored the sorts of institutions which can maintain both religious and other individual liberties. The need for authority and the appropriate institutional design that can allow even fundamentalist religious groups was considered, as well as how these needs have changed over history.
