History
Civil War and Liberty in the Writings of Henrico Caterino Davila and Lord Clarendon
ABSTRACT
The conference used readings from histories by Enrico Caterino Davila and Lord Clarendon to examine the French Wars of Religion and the English Civil War. Both writers drew wider lessons about the nature of politics and human action, in particular how the schemes of ambitious men, weak government, and religious contention unleashed civil war.
