Theology & Philosophy
Freedom, Responsibility, and Rawls’s “Theory of Justice” at Fifty Years
ABSTRACT
The publication of A Theory of Justice in 1971 was pivotal for political philosophy in general and philosophy of liberalism in particular. Not since J. S. Mill's On Liberty, more than one century earlier, had a statement of liberalism enjoyed a comparable impact. This conference reassessed the importance of Rawl's theory with the benefit of fifty years' hindsight.
