Tocqueville on Aristocratic and Democratic Liberty
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this conference was to analyze the constituent characteristics of democracy "in the mirror" of aristocracy. We hope to explore what differences exist between aristocratic and democratic liberty, to consider whether aristocracy has indeed vanished, and to consider in what sense aristocracy and aristocratic liberty may still be useful to democracy.
